Lederhosen are traditional short pants coming from Bavaria (Germany). Its name comes from German “Leder”: leather, and “Hose”: pants. It is worn by all the rural population.

Multiple variants of Lederhosen exist according to the regions where they are worn, but they can group together in two categories:

- “kurze Lederhosen”: they are short. They are worn at work, for hunting and ceremonies.

-“Kniebund-Lederhosen”: it is middle long (below the knee). It is worn during outdoor leisure activities and holidays.

They were all traditionally made of leather in order to make them easier to clean after a hard day's work. It is generally embroidered with monograms relative to hunting or to rural life. Buttons are traditionally cut in wood of deer.

At the beginning of the 19th century, with the appearance of linen pants, a lot of town people abandoned Lederhosen.
